VESSEL CAPSIZING INJURIES

We have successfully investigated and litigated numerous capsizing casualties occurring at sea and in the inland waterways of the United States including the Mississippi River, Houston Ship Channel, and offshore.   Vessel capsizing injuries can include drowning, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, shoulder injury, back injury, arm injury, hip injury, neck injury, and lung injury.

A vessel capsizing often triggers investigations by the US Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Bureau. We regularly assist clients with these investigations. All of our lawyers worked as mariners before practicing law. You can leverage our experience and knowledge to assist you with these investigations.

If you are injured, you must seek medical treatment from the emergency room or a doctor of your own choosing. You should not go to the occupational health clinic, or the doctor recommended by your employer.  The medical facilities often generate significant business from employers and therefore may be biased against you and may not provide a complete review of your medical records.

Vessel owners and insurance companies engage lawyers as soon as they are injured on the job to help facilitate the objective of limiting the amount of money you can recover from the company. The best way to counter these efforts is to promptly speak to a maritime attorney about your rights under the Jones Act.

ADAM'S ADVICE

Report the Injury, Leave Work and Seek Medical Attention

Go to the emergency room or doctor of your own choosing. Do this even if your injuries do not appear severe or life-threatening. You have the right to leave work to see a doctor of your own choosing. Do not go to the doctor or occupational health clinic recommended by your company.
