SUGGESTED PROCEDURE
ADAM DAVIS LAW FIRM SUGGESTS THE FOLLOWING WHEN INJURED AT WORK:
1) Report the injury, leave work and seek medical attention.
Go to the emergency room or a doctor of your own choosing. Do this even if your injuries do not appear severe or life-threatening. You have the right to leave work to see a doctor of your own choosing. Do not go to the doctor or occupational health clinic recommended by your company.
2) Do not give interviews or statements about the incident.
Do not talk to the company attorney, claims adjuster, claims handler or any other company representative about the incident. If a written statement is required, you should keep it simple and concise.
A good format to follow is: My name is [your name], and I was working aboard the [vessel or rig] as [your position]. On [date], I sustained injuries requiring medical treatment.
3) Contact a maritime lawyer as soon as possible.
This should be done before communicating with any insurance adjusters or others involved in the accident. This should be done before you sign anything. A competent maritime lawyer can help you protect your rights and recover compensation.
