BLUEWATER INJURIES

Going to sea can be rewarding.  Sunsets, sunrises and the night sky can be breathtaking and wages for those willing to work at sea can be high.

Going to sea of course can also, of course, be challenging and dangerous. Rough seas, weather, fire, collisions, allisions, sinkings and capsizing can be devastating when they occur far from shore because there are no first responders to help. It is man versus sea.

Bluewater mariners and their families should consult with an experienced maritime lawyer after injury at sea. Vessel owners cannot and do not permit injured seamen to return to work while still recovering, as doing so would compromise the safety of both the injured seamen and other crew members on board.

Thus, an injury at sea for a blue water mariner can be devastating because it can eliminate the mariner’s ability to provide for themselves and their family.  It is important to consult with a competent maritime lawyer after an injury to ensure you and your family’s rights are protected.

ADAM'S ADVICE:

Report the Injury, Leave Work and Seek Medical Attention

Go to the emergency room or doctor of your own choosing. Do this even if your injuries do not appear severe or life-threatening. You have the right to leave work to see a doctor of your own choosing. Do not go to the doctor or occupational health clinic recommended by your company.
